It took me almost six months, but I finally finished my first successful knitted apparel attempt. Here it is:

Unlike the socks I knitted, which were meant for a person with six toes, I might actually wear this piece.

It’s one big knitted piece that required a minimal amount of actual sewing, which is a good thing since I’m a terrible seamstress. (Ironic, since I am the daughter of a woman who sews designer wedding gowns by hands for a living… .)

Next up, an actual sweater with sleeves! (That should take me a year or so….)

I've started knitting a Lizard Ridge Afghan that consists of 24 squares that will be stitched together. This is square one...

So I finished my second sock. It’s loose and baggy like the first one, but at least it’s not as big around the toe area.

Socks are not easy to knit. You’re dealing with much smaller needles for one and then there’s that whole business of “turning the heel.”

I will make at least one more pair of socks to see if it gets easier and the end-product improves. My knitting neighbor swears that by the third pair I will be a pro at socks. We shall see…

Lackluster photo, I know, but I'm busy trying to finish the other sock.

The other night I was flipping through a book on yarn and ran across a section on fiber markets. Apparently, all around the country fiber vendors gather for workshops and exhibits, and lots and lots of shopping for yarn and other stuff near and dear to my heart since I’ve discovered knitting.

So imagine my glee when I saw there was a fiber market listed for Colorado this summer!

I told DialogDog that we were definitely going. His response — a very visible cringe! Yes, he cringed as in “Oh, geez, why don’t you just drag me shoe shopping?!?!??!?!”

No, matter. I’ve put it down on our schedule for June, right in between going to visit the great big RAT and heading off to camp.  It’s going to be a great summer!
